Daniel McCarthy is an American violist, educator, and writer. Their versatile performance career includes chamber music collaborations with members of the Borromeo, Emerson, Escher, and Miró quartets, symphonic work as a violist with Sinfonia da Camera, the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra and Millikin Decatur Symphony Orchestra, and concerts in venues such as the Embassy of Austria, the Residences of the Ambassadors to Romania and Portugal, the White House, and Theresienstadt. Other appearances include performances at Bay View Music Festival, the New Music for Strings Festival (Iceland), the Master Players Festival, Orford Musique, and the Castleman Quartet Program. Daniel received a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Their viola teachers include Elizabeth Freivogel, Lisa Ponton, Jutta Puchhammer-Sédillot, Tsuna Sakamoto, Martha Strongin Katz, Barbara Sudweeks, and Ásdís Valdimarsdóttir.
