Born into a line of drummers through his grandfather, Donald Dogbo is a visionary Ivorian artist-musician, drummer, arranger, and composer based in Canada. After several years as Senegalese rapper Didier Awadi's drummer, he moved to Canada in 2014, where he immediately integrated and rose to prominence on the Montreal and Canadian art scenes.
In 2020, he began work on his project Coubli, which means “to go on an adventure” in his native Bété language. His music is inspired by the evolution of jazz music, which has deep roots in Africa, as well as by his various musical and cultural encounters from Africa to his arrival in Canada. Coubli is now a highly acclaimed album. Released in 2021, it features a host of notable collaborators who join Donald in contributing to his own exciting amalgam of styles. Donald Dogbo was named CBC Jazz Revelation 2024-25 last May. He presented his album Coubli at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and is currently on tour in Canada.
