WORK OF RENOWNED MÉTIS ARTIST CHRISTI BELCOURT TO BE FEATURED ON NATIONAL ARTS CENTRE LANTERN ON NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY ON JUNE 21
OTTAWA – National Arts Centre will celebrate the culture and heritage of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples by showcasing digital images of the stunning work of award-winning Michif (Métis) visual artist Christi Belcourt on its Kipnes Lantern, as part of National Indigenous Peoples Day.
WHEN: Thursday, June 21, 2018, after sunset.
WHERE: National Arts Centre, 1, Elgin Street, Ottawa
DETAILS: The images – created in collaboration with Moment Factory, the Montreal-based multimedia studio – will be featured on the NAC’s three-storey Kipnes Lantern, the largest transparent LED screen in North America, which was inaugurated last year to tell Canadian artists’ stories.
Christi Belcourt won a Governor General’s Innovation Award in 2016 and was named Aboriginal Arts Laureate by the Ontario Arts Council in 2015. Her work can be found within at the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Canadian Museum of History. Read Christi Belcourt’s biography here.
