  Cathy Levy has devoted her professional working life to the performing arts, dedicating herself to the creation, development and presentation of artistic projects, most notably in the dance field. She joined Canada’s National Arts Centre in the fall of 2000, having acquired an enviable reputation throughout the Canadian and international dance communities. Prior to being appointed NAC Dance Producer, Ms Levy served as Producer of the Canada Dance Festival of new Canadian choreography from 1990 to 2000, and as Associate Producer from its inauguration in 1987. From 1992 to 2000, she was Dance Programmer for Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre where she ran an annual contemporary dance series featuring companies from around the world. In 1997, she served as Performing Arts Coordinator for the Cultural Component of Canada’s Year of Asia Pacific, and from 1994 to 1996, she was the Director of the Vancouver East Cultural Centre, a multi-purpose performing space for the contemporary arts. In 1988, Ms Levy founded Dance Umbrella of Ontario, the first-ever service organization of its kind in Canada providing administrative and production support to independent choreographers, and served as its Executive Director for four years until 1992.

  Cathy Levy also coordinated many special projects, including the 1992 IMZ Congress in Toronto (for the Vienna-based International Music Centre), Kodo Drummers in Vancouver in 1989 and 1991, and Close-up of Japan in Toronto in 1990. She also served as Special Events Coordinator for the Canada Pavilion during EXPO 86, as Publicity Director with the Vancouver East Cultural Centre (1983-1985), as Regional Officer for Dance in Canada (1982-1985), and as Publicity Director of the Anna Wyman Dance Theatre (1980-1983). In addition, Ms Levy worked with numerous dance companies, including La La La Human Steps, the Karen Jamieson Dance Company and the Mariinsky Ballet (The Kirov). She was a founding committee member of Toronto's Dancers for Life, an annual fundraising event for the AIDS Committee of Toronto which she co-chaired from 1989 to 1993. In 1994, she helped establish and then co-chaired Vancouver’s Dancers for Life.

  Ms Levy was the recipient of two Canada Council grants, one in 1985 which enabled her to train for a year under Producer David White at Dance Theater Workshop in New York City, and a second, in 1991, allowed her to research and study for four months with major performing arts festivals throughout Europe. In 1999, she was the first Canadian to receive the Japan Foundation’s Uchida Fellowship which enabled her to expand her knowledge of dance and dance companies in Japan.

  Since joining the National Arts Centre, Ms Levy has championed countless Canadian and international artists, bringing their works to the forefront. She has invited numerous international and Canadian dance companies to perform on the NAC’s three stages including – after a 20-year absence from Canada - the iconic Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, as well as the Mariinsky Ballet (The Kirov), the Bolshoi Ballet, Crystal Pite/Kidd Pivot, Akram Khan Company, Dancers of Damelahamid, and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, to name but a few.  NAC Dance annually hosts 18-20 companies, develops a growing number of Canadian and international co-productions, and presents an impressive program of outreach and enhancement activities. Under her leadership NAC Dance has contributed to more than 100 co-productions with mostly Canadian and select international dance artists.

  Cathy Levy has overseen and produced special projects and events for NAC Dance, including an Homage to Jean-Pierre Perreault (May 2004), the Dutch Dance Focus (May 2005), Peggy Jarrell Kaplan photo exhibit (2006), Homage to Marie Chouinard (2008), La La La Human Steps exhibit (2011), Aleksandar Antonijevic photo exhibit (2012) and the Legacy of Hope Foundation exhibit 100 Years of Loss: The Residential School System in Canada (2016). She also launched the NAC-CGI Youth Commission for Dance (2003-2007), the Associate Dance Artists Program (2007), and the Visiting Dance Artist Program (2018), three projects developed in partnership with the Canada Council for the Arts. As well, she launched the popular NAC Dance audio podcast series in 2009. In pandemic times, Ms Levy supported the dance world through innovative digital partnerships such as #DanceForth and Digidance, CAPSULE, Dancing for Joy, Free Rein, Lantern Festival, New Monuments, TESSEL, and Vancouver’s NEXT series.

  Ms Levy was also the Producer for the Golden Jubilee Gala honouring Queen Elizabeth’s visit to Canada, held at Roy Thomson Hall on October 10, 2002, for An Evening Celebrating the Works of Canadian Artists hosted by HRH The Prince of Wales on April 30, 2001, and for the NAC 40th Anniversary on June 2, 2009. In 2015, she conceived and created, alongside NAC Orchestra Music Director Alexander Shelley the landmark NAC commission ENCOUNT3RS that paired three Canadian choreographers with three Canadian composers. The resulting three one-act ballets, each performed to a brand new orchestral score, received their world premiere at the NAC in April 2017. This significant initiative was in celebration of Canada 150 and is a major legacy project for the artists, companies and the NAC.

  Cathy Levy is looked upon as a key figure in the Canadian and international dance milieu and is sought after by emerging artists, producers and arts administrators for advice and short- and long-term mentorships. She is often invited to festivals and dance events, and she contributes articles to newspapers, dance journals and newsletters. She has served on several boards, committees, juries and advisory panels and was a nominator for the internationally renowned Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative for two cycles (Ohad Naharin and Crystal Pite). The Montreal contemporary dance skating group Le Patin Libre named her its annual membre d’honneur (2016-17). She is currently a Board member of the CanDance Network and an advisor to international tanzmesse nrw (2020 and 2022), and is a past member of the Centre de Création O Vertigo (Montreal) selection committee. In 2019, she was appointed Member of the Order of Canada in recognition of her contribution to dance in Canada. In 2022, Cathy was made Knight of the Order of the Crown (Belgium) for having presented numerous Belgian artists during her 22-year NAC tenure.  In Spring of 2023, Cathy Levy ended her tenure as Executive Producer of Dance and was granted the title of NAC Dance Producer Emerita in honour of her contributions. Cathy has programmed the 2023-2024 NAC Dance season.

  Ms Levy lives in Montreal with her husband, documentary film and live event producer Martin Bolduc. They have two sons, Jonah and Luka.

  Cathy Levy consacre sa vie professionnelle aux arts de la scène; elle œuvre à la création, à l’élaboration et à la diffusion de projets artistiques, plus particulièrement dans le domaine de la danse. Elle s’est jointe au Centre national des Arts du Canada (CNA) à l’automne 2000, forte d’une réputation enviable au sein des communautés canadienne et internationale de la danse. Avant d’être nommée productrice générale de la Danse au CNA, elle a été productrice du Festival Danse Canada, vitrine de la nouvelle chorégraphie canadienne, de 1990 à 2000, après en avoir été la productrice associée depuis sa création en 1987. De 1992 à 2000, elle a exercé les fonctions de programmatrice de la danse au Harbourfront Centre de Toronto, où elle présentait une série annuelle de danse contemporaine internationale mettant en vedette des compagnies du monde entier. En 1997, elle a été coordonnatrice des arts de la scène dans le cadre du volet culturel de l’année Asie-Pacifique au Canada, et, de 1994 à 1996, directrice du East Cultural Centre de Vancouver, un espace polyvalent de présentation des arts contemporains.   Depuis qu’elle est au Centre national des Arts, Cathy Levy a soutenu d’innombrables artistes canadiens et internationaux en leur permettant de présenter leurs œuvres. Elle a invité de nombreuses compagnies de danse du Canada et d’ailleurs dans le monde à se produire sur les scènes du CNA, notamment – après 20 ans d’absence au Canada – l’emblématique Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, le Ballet du Théâtre Mariinsky (Kirov), le Ballet du Bolchoï, Crystal Pite/Kidd Pivot, Akram Khan Company, Dancers of Damelahamid, et Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Danse CNA accueille tous les ans de 18 à 20 compagnies, crée un nombre de plus en plus important de coproductions canadiennes et internationales, et diffuse un programme impressionnant d’activités de rayonnement et de perfectionnement. Sous sa direction, Danse CNA a contribué à  plus de 100 coproductions mettant en vedette principalement des artistes canadiens, de même que certains artistes internationaux de marque.

  Cathy Levy a chapeauté et produit des projets et des événements spéciaux pour Danse CNA, notamment l’Hommage à Jean-Pierre Perreault (mai 2004), Pleins feux sur la danse néerlandaise (mai 2005), l’exposition de photos de Peggy Jarrell Kaplan (2006), l’Hommage à Marie Chouinard (2008), l’exposition La La La Human Steps (2011), l’exposition de photos d’Aleksandar Antonijevic (2012), et l’exposition 100 ans de pertes : Le régime des pensionnats au Canada de la Fondation autochtone de l’espoir (2016). Elle a également lancé les Commandes de danse jeunesse CNA-CGI (2003–2007), le programme des artistes associés de Danse CNA (2007) et le programme des artistes invités en danse (2018), trois projets développés en partenariat avec le Conseil des arts du Canada. Elle a également lancé une populaire série de balados de Danse CNA en 2009. Depuis le début de la pandémie, Cathy a soutenu le milieu de la danse au moyen de partenariats numériques innovants, tels que #DansEnvol et Digidanse, CAPSULE, Du cœur à la danse, Champ libre, le festival du film de la Lanterne, New Monuments, TESSEL, et la série NEXT de Vancouver.

  Par ailleurs, Cathy a assuré la production du Gala du Jubilé en l’honneur de la reine Élisabeth, présenté au Roy Thomson Hall le 10 octobre 2002, lors de sa visite au Canada, celle de la soirée en hommage aux artistes canadiens offerte par S.A.R. le prince de Galles le 30 avril 2001, et le 40e anniversaire du CNA le 2 juin 2009. En 2015, elle a conçu et créé, en collaboration avec le directeur musical de l’Orchestre du CNA Alexander Shelley, RENCONTR3S, une commande exceptionnelle du CNA qui jumelait trois chorégraphes et trois compositeurs canadiens. La première mondiale de cette œuvre composée de trois ballets en un acte sur des musiques orchestrales originales a été présentée au CNA en avril 2017. Cette initiative d’envergure, qui visait à célébrer le 150e anniversaire de la Confédération canadienne, constitue un important legs pour les artistes, les compagnies de danse et le CNA.

  Cathy est considérée comme une personnalité incontournable dans le milieu de la danse au Canada et à l’international. Elle est très sollicitée des artistes émergents, des producteurs et des administrateurs des arts pour ses conseils et du mentorat à court et long terme. Elle est aussi souvent invitée dans des festivals et événements de danse, et rédige régulièrement des articles pour des journaux, des magazines et des bulletins spécialisés en danse. Elle a été membre de plusieurs conseils d’administration, comités, jurys et groupes consultatifs. Elle a récemment été l’une des nominatrices [NM1] du Programme Rolex de mentorat artistique pendant deux cycles (Ohad Naharin et Crystal Pite). Le collectif montréalais de patinage contemporain Le Patin Libre l’a nommée membre d’honneur de sa saison 2016–2017. Cathy est actuellement membre du conseil d’administration du réseau CanDanse et consultante du festival Internationale Tanzmesse NRW (2020 et 2022), puis ancienne membre du comité de sélection du Centre de Création O Vertigo (Montréal). Elle a été faite membre de l’Ordre du Canada en 2019 en reconnaissance de sa contribution au monde de la danse au Canada. En 2022, Cathy est nommée Chevalier de l’Ordre de la Couronne (Belgique) pour avoir présenté de nombreux artistes belges au cours de son mandat de 22 ans au CNA.

  Au printemps 2023,  Cathy Levy a conclu son mandat en tant que productrice générale de Danse CNA. Elle reçoit le titre honorifique de Productrice générale émérite pour saluer ses contributions. Cathy a planifié les spectacles de la saison de Danse 2023-2024.

  Cathy Levy vit actuellement à Montréal avec son mari Martin Bolduc, producteur de films documentaires et d’événements. Ils ont deux fils, Jonah et Luka.

  Artistic Director and Choreographer Wen Wei Wang

  Wen Wei Wang has presented his work across Canada, South America and Italy, as well as in China at the Beijing National Performing Arts Center and with the Beijing Modern Dance Company at the Shanghai Grand Theater. Wen Wei has choreographed twelve original works for his Vancouver-based company, Wen Wei Dance, as well as for Alberta Ballet, Canada’s Ballet Jörgen, Ballet BC, Ballet Kelowna, NW Dance Project, Les Ballets Jazz Montréal, Arts Umbrella and Simon Fraser University. He has also choreographed dance sections for the Vancouver Opera and the San Francisco Opera for their piece, Nixon in China. In 2013, Wen Wei was awarded the RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrants Award. In 2018 Wen Wei was invited to be a choreographer with the China National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing for its production of Hamlet.

  Wen Wei Wang a commencé tout jeune à danser en Chine, où il est né et a grandi. Il a acquis sa formation de danseur puis évolué comme interprète professionnel au sein de la Lanzhou Army Song and Dance Company. En 1991, il est venu s’établir au Canada, où il a joint les rangs de la Judith Marcuse Dance Company  avant de danser pendant sept ans avec le Ballet British Columbia. Depuis qu’il a remporté le Clifford E. Lee Choreographic Award, en 2000, il a signé des chorégraphies pour l’Alberta Ballet, Ballet BC, Ballet Jorgen, Dancers Dancing, North West Dance Projects à Portland (Oregon), The Arts Umbrella, les opéras de Vancouver et de San Francisco, ainsi que Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal (BJM). Il est, depuis 2003, directeur artistique de Wen Wei Dance, compagnie pour laquelle il a chorégraphié huit œuvres intégrales qui ont été présentées dans des salles prestigieuses partout au Canada et dans le monde entier, notamment au Festival de danse contemporaine de Colombie, à la Biennale de Venise et au Centre national des arts de la scène de Beijing. Il a reçu le prix Isadora soulignant l’excellence en chorégraphie en 2006 et le Prix des arts de la scène Rio Tinto Alcan en 2009.

  Ame Henderson

  Ame Henderson is a dance artist of settler ancestry living and working in Tkaronto/Toronto in the Dish with One Spoon Territory. With a practice that spans publication, performance and exhibition, her work activates dance and choreography to propose experiential modes of being together. Her works produced by Toronto collective Public Recordings include /Dance/Songs/ (2006), relay (2010) and what we are saying (2013).

  Collaboration and co-authored projects form the core of a practice that enfolds diverse assemblies of people and organizations: The Most Together We’ve Ever Been (2009) and Out of Season (2015) were created with Croatian choreographer and performer Matija Ferlin and Room with Sticks (2013) was created with the choreographer Tedd Robinson and musician Charles Quevillon. For Toronto Dance Theatre, she created voyager (2014) with the songwriter Jennifer Castle and Noisy (2017) with musicians Robin Dann and Matt Smith.

  Ame Henderson est une artiste de la danse dont les origines remontent aux peuples colonisateurs; elle vit et travaille aujourd’hui à Tkaronto (Toronto), territoire lié par une entente de partage wampum (plat à une cuillère). Grâce à une pratique artistique qui englobe création, publication et expositions, Henderson propose, à travers la danse et la chorégraphie, de nouveaux modes expérimentaux de convivialité. Parmi ses œuvres produites par le collectif torontois Public Recordings, mentionnons /Dance/Songs/ (2006), relay (2010) et what we are saying (2013).

  Marie Chouinard, choreographer, is the Executive and Artistic Director of COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD, Founding Chair of the Prix de la Danse de Montréal, an Associate Dance Artist of the Canada’s National Arts Centre and Director of Dance at the Venice Biennale.

  Today, COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD enjoys an international reputation. Its trajectory began in 1978, when Marie Chouinard presented her first creation, Cristallisation. This work was followed by thirty solos performed on stages at home and abroad, including Marie Chien Noir (1982), S.T.A.B. (Space, Time and Beyond) (1986), and Afternoon of a Faun (1987), landmarks in contemporary dance of the past 40 years.

  In 1990, the soloist and choreographer founded her own company. Since that time, COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD has performed all over the world, and co-produces its creations with renowned partners such as the Venice Biennale, the ImPulsTanz International Dance Festival (Vienna), the Théâtre de la Ville (Paris), the Fondazione Musica Per Roma (Rome), Place des Arts (Montreal), Festival TransAmériques (Montreal) and the National Arts Centre (Ottawa). In 2007, the COMPAGNIE moved to its own building, Espace Marie Chouinard, in Montreal.

  For Marie Chouinard, each creation is an odyssey through the history of humanity that evades the linearity of a narrative. The intimate intelligence of the body, the inexhaustible complexity of its articulations and mutations command constructions that are achieved through form. The choreographer is thoroughly engaged in every aspect of a work, from music to scenography, lighting, costumes, and hairstyles, so they resonate with each other in a whole with great power of evocation.

  Hailed for their technique, versatility and performance skills, the ten permanent dancers of the COMPAGNIE, trained in different somatic approaches, bring Marie Chouinard’s iconic works to the stage. The award-winning dancer Carol Prieur celebrated her 20th anniversary with the COMPAGNIE in 2015.

  The COMPAGNIE has a vast repertoire of works, most still performed internationally: The Rite of Spring, Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, 24 Preludes by Chopin, Le Cri du monde, Étude no 1, bODY_rEMIX/les_vARIATIONS_gOLDBERG, HENRI MICHAUX : MOUVEMENTS, Soft virtuosity, still humid, on the edge and HIERONYMUS BOSCH: THE GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS. The Rite of Spring has been performed for almost 25 years and become a classic in the history of contemporary dance.

  The choreographer's works also appear in the repertoires of major ballet companies such as the National Ballet of Canada, the São Paulo Companhia dance, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, the GöteborgsOperan and the Gulbenkian Ballet †. Moreover, since 2015, Marie Chouinard has created works for other companies, such as the Martha Graham Dance Company and Ballets de Monte-Carlo. In 2009, Marie Chouinard, the dancer, returned to the stage after a 20 year absence with her solo creation morning glories :)-(: and since 2012, has danced IN MUSEUM, a three-hour solo performance-installation.

  An author, set and lighting designer, photographer and film director, her opus includes multimedia works (Cantique no 3, Icônes, and CORPS CÉLESTES) films (bODY_rEMIX/gOLDBERG_vARIATIONS, MARIE CHOUINARD: THE RITE OF SPRING, and the music video Jamais by Serge Fiori), a collection of poems entitled Chantier des extases, the photo-installation Paradisi Gloria, and an art exhibit entitled DRAWINGS. In 2015, Marie Chouinard designed CANTIQUE, a first application for iPad and iPhone, free from the App Store. Whatever the medium (stage, screen, digital, print, etc.), the crux of the work is always the body.

  A true cultural ambassador for Quebec, Marie Chouinard has received several awards and distinctions in recognition of her contribution to the arts, including the Bessie Award (New York, 2000), the Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montréal (2006), the title of Officer of the Order of Canada (2007), the title of Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (France, 2009), the Denise Pelletier Award (Quebec, 2010), the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec Award for best choreography for THE GOLDEN MEAN (LIVE) (2012), the Samuel de Champlain Award (France, 2014), the title of Companion of the Ordre national des arts et des lettres du Québec (2015), the title of Chevalier of the Ordre national du Québec (2015), the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement (Canada, 2016), the Positano "Choreographer of the Year" Award (Italy, 2016) and the Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts (Canada, 2016).

  The name of Marie Chouinard became a dictionary entry in Le Petit Larousse, illustrated edition, in 2010 and in Le Robert in 2011.

Tous les aspects d’une œuvre (de la musique à la scénographie en passant par la lumière, les costumes, les coiffures) sont rigoureusement investis par la chorégraphe, de sorte qu’ils soient en résonnance les uns avec les autres dans un tout manifestant une grande force d’évocation.

  Salués pour leur technique, leur polyvalence et leurs qualités d’interprétation, les 10 danseurs permanents de la COMPAGNIE, formés à différentes approches somatiques, portent sur scène les œuvres audacieuses que signe Marie Chouinard. Interprète primée, Carol Prieur a célébré ses 20 ans au sein de la COMPAGNIE en 2015.

  Le répertoire de la COMPAGNIE est vaste et la plupart des œuvres qui le composent tournent continuellement dans le monde : Le Sacre du printemps, Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, Les 24 Préludes de Chopin, Le Cri du monde, Étude no 1, bODY_rEMIX/les_vARIATIONS_gOLDBERG, HENRI MICHAUX : MOUVEMENTS, Soft virtuosity, still humid, on the edge et JÉRÔME BOSCH : LE JARDIN DES DÉLICES. Dansé depuis près de 25 ans, Le Sacre du printemps est devenu un classique de l’histoire de la danse contemporaine.

  Les œuvres de la chorégraphe se retrouvent également au répertoire de grandes compagnies de ballet : le Ballet national du Canada, la São Paulo Companhia de dança, les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, le GöteborgsOperan et le Ballet Gulbenkian†.

  Depuis 2015, Marie Chouinard crée aussi pour d’autres compagnies, notamment la Martha Graham Dance Company et les Ballets de Monte-Carlo.

  En 2009, Marie Chouinard, la danseuse, renoue après 20 ans d’absence avec la scène en créant le solo gloires du matin :)-(:. Depuis 2012, elle danse IN MUSEUM, une installation-performance solo de 3 heures.

  Auteure, conceptrice d’éclairage, scénographe et réalisatrice, son opus compte également des œuvres multimédias (Cantique no 3, Icônes et CORPS CÉLESTES) et cinématographiques (les films bODY_rEMIX/les_vARIATIONS_gOLDBERG et MARIE CHOUINARD : LE SACRE DU PRINTEMPS, ainsi que le vidéoclip Jamais de Serge Fiori), le recueil de poèmes Chantier des extases, l’installation photographique Paradisi Gloria et l’exposition DESSINS. En 2015, Marie Chouinard conçoit une première application pour iPad et iPhone disponible gratuitement sur l’App Store : CANTIQUE. Quel que soit le support privilégié (scène, écran, numérique, livre, etc.), la matière première de l’œuvre est toujours le corps.

  Au fil des années, la COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD développe sa propre technique de danse, enseignée par ses danseurs lors de stages ou de classes de maître offerts en tournée.

  Véritable ambassadrice culturelle du Québec, Marie Chouinard reçoit plusieurs prix et distinctions soulignant sa contribution au monde des arts, dont le Bessie Award (New York, 2000), le Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montréal (2006), le grade d’officière de l’Ordre du Canada (2007), le grade de chevalière de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (France, 2009), le Prix Denise-Pelletier (Québec, 2010), le Prix du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec pour la meilleure œuvre chorégraphique pour LE NOMBRE D’OR (LIVE) (2012), le Prix culturel Samuel de Champlain (France, 2014), le grade de compagne de l’Ordre national des arts et des lettres du Québec (2015), le grade de chevalière de l’Ordre national du Québec (2015), le Prix du Gouverneur général pour les arts du spectacle (Canada, 2016), le Prix Positano « Chorégraphe de l’année » (Italie, 2016) et le Prix Walter-Carsen d’excellence en arts de la scène (Canada, 2016).

  Le nom de Marie Chouinard fait son entrée dans Le Petit Larousse illustré en 2010 et dans Le Robert en 2011.

  Dancer and choreographer Louise Lecavalier worked with Édouard Lock and La La La Human Steps from 1981 to 1999, a period of exceptional intensity punctuated by works that have since become mythical along with scintillating collaborations (David Bowie, Frank Zappa…). Her extreme dance, filled with a fiery energy, caught the imagination of a whole generation. Since founding her own company, Fou glorieux, in 2006, her movement research has been emblematic of her whole career, emphasizing the surpassing of limits and risk-taking, a search for the absolute in which she seeks to bring out the “more-than-human in the human.” In 2012, she created So Blue, her first full-length choreography, followed by Battleground in 2016. Both works have toured extensively, nationally and internationally. After over 60 performances, the Stations tour continues across Canada, Quebec and internationally. Many prestigious awards were received during her career.

  Danseuse et chorégraphe, Louise Lecavalier est associée à Édouard Lock et à La La La Human Steps de 1981 à 1999, des années d’une rare intensité, jalonnées d’œuvres devenues mythiques et de rencontres-chocs : David Bowie, Frank Zappa… Elle incarne alors une danse extrême qui marquera l’imaginaire de toute une génération. Depuis, avec sa compagnie Fou glorieux, fondée en 2006, elle poursuit une recherche gestuelle emblématique de toute sa carrière, fondée sur le dépassement de soi et la prise de risque, une quête d’absolu où elle tente de débusquer « le plus qu’humain dans l’humain ». Elle signe, en 2012, sa première œuvre chorégraphique intégrale, So Blue, suivie en 2016 de Mille batailles, deux pièces qui connaissent une large diffusion internationale. La première de Stations a eu lieu en 2020 à Düsseldorf en Allemagne. Après plus d’une soixantaine de représentations, la tournée de Stations se poursuit au Québec, au Canada et à l’international. De nombreux prix ponctuent sa trajectoire.

  In a choreographic career spanning three decades, Crystal Pite has created more than 50 works for dance companies in Canada and around the world. She is the founding artistic director of the Vancouver-based company Kidd Pivot, world-renowned for radical hybrids of dance and theatre that are assembled with a keen sense of wit and invention. Crystal is known for works that courageously address such challenging and complex themes as trauma, addiction, conflict, consciousness, and mortality; her bold and original vision has earned her international acclaim and inspired an entire generation of dance artists. 

  Crystal Pite was born in Terrace, BC, and grew up in Victoria. She began her dance career as a company member of Ballet British Columbia (Ballet BC), then William Forsythe’s Ballett Frankfurt. She made her choreographic debut in 1990 at Ballet BC, and since then has created works for such prominent companies as The Royal Ballet, The Paris Opera Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater, Cullberg Ballet, Ballett Frankfurt, The National Ballet of Canada, Ballets Jazz Montréal (resident choreographer 2001–04), and Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. She has also collaborated with Electric Company Theatre and Robert Lepage, and is currently Associate Choreographer of Nederlands Dans Theater, Associate Dance Artist of Canada’s National Arts Centre, and Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells in London.  

  In 2002, she formed Kidd Pivot, a company that strives to distill and translate universal questions into artworks that connect us to deep and essential parts of humanity.  

  “Running through all of my work is the question of what moves us,” she says. Kidd Pivot tours internationally with critically acclaimed works such as Betroffenheit and Revisor (both co-created with playwright Jonathon Young), The Tempest Replica, Dark Matters, Lost Action and The You Show. In 2008, Crystal Pite participated in the inaugural GGPAA Mentorship Program as the protégée of 2004 GGPAA laureate Veronica Tennant, former principal dancer of the National Ballet of Canada. 

  Crystal Pite is a Member of the Order of Canada. Her other awards and honours include the Benois de la Danse, Canada Council Jacqueline Lemieux Prize, Grand Prix de la danse de Montréal, two UK Critics’ Circle Dance Awards, four Laurence Olivier Awards, and an honorary doctorate from Simon Fraser University. 

  Au cours d’une carrière de chorégraphe qui s’étend sur trois décennies, Crystal Pite a créé plus de 50 œuvres pour des compagnies de danse au Canada et dans le monde entier. Elle est la directrice artistique fondatrice de la compagnie Kidd Pivot de Vancouver, reconnue mondialement pour ses hybridations radicales entre la danse et le théâtre, assemblées avec un sens aigu de l’esprit et de l’invention. M^me Pite est connue pour ses œuvres qui abordent courageusement des thèmes aussi difficiles et complexes que les traumatismes, la toxicomanie, les conflits, la conscience et la mortalité. Sa vision audacieuse et originale lui a valu une reconnaissance internationale et a inspiré toute une génération d’artistes de la danse.

  The late Tedd Robinson (1952-2022) was a Canadian choreographer, performer and educator, best known for his idiosyncratic solo works, including the Chalmers’ award-winning Rokudo: six destinies in three steps.

  After graduating with a BFA from York University and studying at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre and with eminent British visual theatre artist Lindsay Kemp, his career trajectory first took him to Winnipeg, where he created highly theatrical ensemble works as artistic director of Contemporary Dancers from 1984-1990. In 1990 he returned to Ottawa to study with Peter Boneham and pursue a solo career, and his critically acclaimed works soon won him a multitude of commissions and an international schedule of teaching and touring.

  In 1998, he formed 10 Gates Dancing Inc. to promote the development and performance of contemporary dance creations. As artistic director, he created repertoire for some of the most renowned dance artists in Canada alongside establishing choreographic consulting services for the milieu that have benefitted over 40 choreographers. From 2005-2012, Robinson created La B.A.R.N., a rural venue for creation, residencies and performance. And, in 2013, he established Centre Q: A Centre for Questioning, a research space for dance and music.

  His collaborators included Louise Lecavalier, Margie Gillis, Ame Henderson, and composer/performer Charles Quevillon. Robinson's work at La B.A.R.N. won le Prix en art de la scène l’Avant-Première at the Culturiades de l’Outaouais 2009. He was winner of the 2014 Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts and was a National Arts Centre Associate Dance Artist.

  His work was influenced by his six years of study as a monk in the Hakukaze soto zen monastery in Ottawa.   

  Le regretté Tedd Robinson (1952-2022) était un chorégraphe, interprète et éducateur canadien connu surtout pour ses solos caractéristiques, notamment Rokudo: six destinies in three steps, œuvre couronnée par un prix Chalmers.

  Après avoir obtenu son baccalauréat en beaux-arts à l'Université York et étudié à la School of Toronto Dance Theatre et auprès de Lindsay Kemp, éminent mime britannique, sa carrière l'a mené d'abord à Winnipeg où il a créé des œuvres d'ensemble très théâtrales alors qu'il était directeur artistique de la compagnie Contemporary Dancers, de 1984 à 1990. De retour à Ottawa en 1990 pour étudier auprès de Peter Boneham et poursuivre une carrière de soliste, ses créations acclamées par la critique lui valent bientôt une multitude de commandes et de nombreuses offres de tournées et d'enseignement sur la scène internationale.
